LEXINGTON SHOW ON 23RD MAY NOW SOLD OUT
In the wake of a triumphant performance at the BBC Radio 6 Music Festival in Glasgow, North London three-piece Girl Ray share their new video for “Stupid Things.”
Starring the band themselves and shot over the course of a weekend in Cambridge, director Alex Cantouris took inspiration from films such as Atonement and The Other Boleyn Girl.
Girl Ray’s Poppy Hankin:“We’d always thought a period drama influenced music video would be really fun to film. So we decided to get our Keira Knightley on and do a WWII romance.”
The song itself is “about crushing really hard on someone, and finding myself doing fucking ridiculous things to feel like we’ve got some kind of connection,” says Hankin. “Watching films that they mentioned fleetingly or ordering their favourite drink at a bar. Very stupid but happens every single time, ha ha”.
“Stupid Things” is already on the BBC 6 Music playlist and serves as the follow-up to “Trouble,” the band’s first single for Moshi Moshi (which was also playlisted at 6 Music).
Girl Ray have also just announced their biggest headline show to date which will take place at The Scala, London on 9th November. Their existing London headline commitment (23rd May @ The Lexington) is long sold out. The band are also confirmed for this year’s Green Man and End Of The Road festivals.
Girl Ray – comprising Hankin, Iris McConnell and Sophie Moss – have only recently finished their A-Levels and have already completed their debut album (set for release this year via Moshi Moshi; details to follow very soon).
