Tell me a bit about your latest projects?
I’m starting to shoot a lot more female editorial. Going back to my roots shooting more film and developing my own prints. I’m also starting to work a lot more with video.
What equipment and software do you make use of in your work flow?
I shoot mainly on my Canon7D and work on the images in photoshop, I use as little manipulation as possible, I like to keep images as close to the original capture as I can.
With the digital evolution do you think using film for a busy photographer is becoming unpractical?
Unfortunately yes, it does take more time and care and is a lot more expensive. I hope to never stop working in film though, even if it’s only for personal work. Watching your prints develop under red lights and watching them upload on a screen just doesn’t compare.
Has there been any pivotal moments, perhaps early at school, or a family member that made you realize you wanted to pursue it as a long term path?
I always wanted to be a writer when I was young, until I picked up a camera. There was no real pivotal moment, I just love capturing people, honesty and emotion in a shot, I knew this is what I wanted to do.
Do you have any peer’s work you find interesting?
I always find it interesting to see what others my age are achieving, it’s inspirational to see people grow in the industry.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of working in this industry?
Personally I find it hard to have my passion as my job. I love photography too much to shoot people/things that don’t get me excited just to pay my way. I may end up a very poor photographer!
Are there any other creative careers you may pursue in the future?
I’m really enjoying video at the moment, I think I may get more into film and documentary in future. I would also still love to write a novel.
