How long have you been designing, creating fashion illustrations and art?

I’ve been an illustrator for years but only until two years ago I realized that way of art and transmit with them, and what type of design identifies me.

What attracted you to approach Menswear?

A trip to Holland and Germany. I love the way men dress and I decided to introduce a different small grain of sand in the Spanish men’s fashion.

What is the main ethos behind the brand {Eugenialejos}?

The name is associated with perfect finish with best and original quality fabrics. The minimalistic pieces are small scale artwork reinterpreting past and present culture with a depurated style. Installations, unique pieces and limited edition collections complete the label.

What are some of the sources of inspiration behind your latest collection ‘Dixit’?

Nothing inspires me like…a good exhibition. I love spending my time in art galleries and museums. We love to travel abroad before we start working on a new collection to get inspiration from the contradictions and imperfections of different countries and artists we don’t know. Bionics and human beings are two words that define the whole collection “A dixit”.

In what sort of environment do you like to create your things in, a bedroom, studio, music, silence, friends or alone…etc?

Always alone with music. In my studio-bedroom, with the sketchbook in the underground, thinking ideas while eating,…but forever alone. The rhythm of music inspires me but the words of the conversations I often mislead. I have a million ideas in my mind and is crucial to take the right decisions at this stage. Recently I’ve realized how important it is to know your strengths and where, by contrast, is nice to have help. Since then, I try to focus only on what I´ll be really good. “

Most of what we see in your lookbook is actually made by yourself, even the shoes and accessories, do you think it is important to be versatile in fashion now?

I am a perfectionist, because I grew up in a small city and I like to learn about everything. I think that the society makes us more versatile.

Are there any fashion designers or labels you would like to collaborate with?

Maison Martin Margiela, Issey Miyake or kris Van Assche in fashion but a great list of names of musicians or artists. Bjork, Bart Hess or Sachiko Kodama for example.

What are your thoughts on the current state of Menswear in the fashion industry as it is?

I really don’t know! I don’t think anyone can predict exactly what will happen in the next few years. The Chinese economy from where so much fast fashion comes is growing, but its relationship vis a vis the US is not stable. I think the fashion industry is much interested in the ‘academic’ side of fashion – in research, history and so on except very superficially.

Where would you like to see {Eugenialejos} in 5 years time?

I hope…I’ll live enough years to realise my ideas and discover what I haven’t learned yet.
